Resolving host problem

disable ipv6, add manual dns settings in ipv4 to 8 8 8 8, alternate being 8 8 4 4, after doing these the "resolving host" issue never came up again, no matter what site i visit, it was like magic my question is, how and why did this fix the problem, what problem was i even having? was it really my isp or what?
